Autocrime advice from Spondon Safer Neighbourhood Team

Over the past few weeks, Spondon Safer Neighbourhood Team have seen an increase in offences of theft from motor vehicle/criminal damage to motor vehicles in your local area.

If you have seen anything suspicious in the area then please contact a member of the team.

In order to ensure you do not become a victim of Autocrime there are a few simple measures you can take;
• Lock your vehicle and ensure all windows are closed.
• Remove any valuable items from display, ideally taking everything into your property.
• Remove any marks left on your windscreen by a satellite navigation system (the marks left from the cradle are an indication that a sat nav may be in your vehicle.)
• If possible park your vehicle near a street light or as near as possible to a residential property.

If you use your vehicle for business purposes, meaning you have tools and other valuable pieces of equipment inside, best practise is to lock your vehicle away in a garage or other safe premises. If this is not possible then ensure you have adequate security features on your vehicle or ask a member of your local Police team for a sign stating ‘No valuables left in this vehicle overnight.’ Although these measures are not going to guarantee you will not become a victim, there is a chance it will deter would be offenders.

If you require any further crime prevention advise, then please contact a member of the team who would be happy to help on 0345 123 3333 or please visit www.derbyshire.police.uk.
