Spondon Neighbourhood Board - Funding Update

Spondon Neighbourhood Board has allocated its Highway funding for 2011. Projects that will be undertaken in the next year include:

  • Street Cleansing campaign – this will prioritise a Dog waste campaign to provide signs, bags, prizes for schools to develop posters etc. There will also be extra litter picks at West Park Nature Reserve and extra jitty cleaning.
  • Compactor day – this follows on from two successful days last year. A number of streets will be targeted to allow residents to put out bulk rubbish, this will then be collected free of charge. Dates and streets to be arranged.
  • Recycling packs for schools. This will include information on recycling, giveaway recycled products etc.
  • Extra traffic enforcement around schools and in the village centre.
  • Projects to encourage safety around schools and reduce car use on school run.
  • Pedestrian Crossing investigation for Dale Road.

There are also a number of other projects under this budget.

In the Community budget the Board have allocated funding to continue Craddock Avenue Youth Club on a Wednesday night and to continue the Youth work done by Sporting Futures who run two youth sessions at Spondon Snooker Hall and also run outreach sessions.

During 2010 the Board helped a number of organisations and events in Spondon with funding. Below is a round up of some of the work:

  • Spondon Village Festival - Help sponsoring the Festival.
  • Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust - Hedge laying in Spondon.
  • Spondon Traders Association - Sponsor Spondon Alight (Christmas lights).
  • Purchase of a mobile Speed Indicator Device and funding to cover costs of installations, start on Locko Road - other locations to follow.
  • Drop kerbs, grit bins, new signage and pavement slurrying.
  • New kit for Spondon Sports clubs.
  • Funding for two monthly community news pages in the Spondon C&C magazine.
