STA Chairman Mark Davis looks ahead in full to the event...
"The Spondon Traders' Association hopes and expects this year's Spondon Day to be bigger and better than ever.
But what does bigger and better mean? It means that we listened to all the comments and ideas that we got last year, and we've tried to make it happen. So there will be more fair rides. We hope that there will be more music and entertainment, There are certainly going to be plenty of stalls, some featuring crafts, some a bit different. The members of the Trader's Association will be out there, showing how brilliant our Village is, celebrating the independent businesses with their specialist knowledge. It is going to be great, we hope.
If you still haven't made your mind up whether you you would like a stall we still have a few left but please hurry! Contact us through our facebook page and we'll certainly try to fit you in. This is a chance to show off your wares to your local community.
So where is it all happening? The easy answer is Spondon Village Centre. The Village Hall will be open from 11.00 till 4.00 and have some fascinating exhibitions, particularly exploring Spondon through Archives and Artefacts. This will feature Spondon Historical Society, Derby Local Studies, Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society, and Spondon Library. The fascinating Spondon Archive books will be available, including the new one: My Life in Spondon by Frank Hooley (1889-1975.)
Behind the Village Hall, in the area that has been transformed over the last year, will be an entire hamlet of stalls with displays, trinkets, goodies and gifts for all the family. This will be a special place to visit, don't miss out!
The fair will fill Sitwell Street, Moor End and all the way up Chapel Street. You did tell us you wanted more!
On the green in the Precinct you will find more for the kids (of all ages), local dance troupes, speciality displays, it will be really entertaining.
What about food and drink, I hear you ask. When have the Traders' Association let you down. All the Clubs and Pubs will be open for business. And our local cafés will be offering their usual amazing spread. Just look out for the STA Logo on their windows, these are the Traders that care for your village.
Spondon Day is scheduled to run from 1.30 till 5.30, with the roads being closed from 12.30 till 6.30. The Stalls behind the Village Hall will be there from 12.00 till 6.00, so don't miss out!
And there's more! You told us that you wanted to get involved more, so the Traders' Association have decided that a competition would be just the thing. Come to Spondon Day dressed as a Teenager! Not necessarily as when you were a teenager, but any teenager from any era. We will be giving prizes. Keep watching the STA FaceBook or call into one of our members shops for more details.
The Spondon Traders' Association and all its members always appreciate the support of everyone in Spondon and further afield. Please help us to keep the Village thriving by buying raffle tickets, putting donations into our tins, and supporting our local businesses.
So many people are helping, but I must mention that the Village Club is organising a fundraising event on Saturday 28th, which will include a Bric a Brac sale & book sale, Face painting, and a Raffle prize draw. There will be Tea & cake and Craft Activity during the day.
Last month I mentioned that the Traders' Association members care passionately about the appearance of the Village Centre. We promised that we would be doing something special.
As always, we are immensely grateful for the forbearance and understanding of all the residents that are affected by the road closure. Without your co-operation and patience, we would be lost.
So we are all looking forward to seeing everyone on the 25th and we hope you have a great time.
