Local Spondon group, Trees for Spondon, are looking for volunteers to help during the next tree planting season.
The group are on a mission to plant 12,000 new trees in Spondon - one for each resident - as part of the wider Trees for Derby initiative. They are about to begin a new project with West Park School to plant 2,500 British Native trees on the large playing field at the school. The trees will be planted along the existing field borders and in corner areas of rough land to ensure that the field still remains an otherwise very large, open area.
Planting sessions are currently planned between Thursday 2nd December and Sunday 5th December (possibly longer, depending on weather) and everyone is welcome to go along to help with the planting work. The group describe it as "a family-friendly activity and a great chance to make a difference in your local community".
Full details of the call for volunteers can be seen in the Facebook post below. To volunteer or to find out more about the project in general, visit the group's own website or Facebook page.
