A new charitable organisation has launched in Spondon with the aim of "providing food, warmth and kindness to make life a little easier and bring the community together".
The Community Care Hub opened the doors to its new permanent home at Craddock Avenue Community Hall in December, following two initial events at Spondon Methodist Church in October and November, and they've already been a huge help to many families in the local area.
The Hub's initial primary purpose is to provide a twice-weekly food bank service for Spondon and the surrounding area. The Hub is open from 11.30am to 4.30pm on Tuesdays and from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Fridays. Visitors can collect essential food supplies, often including fresh fruit, veg and bread, together with personal hygiene and household cleaning items too.
Anyone in need is welcome to go to the Hub to use the food bank and to also find out more about other support services available. You are promised no awkward questions and absolutely no judgement, just a warm, friendly welcome and help with what you need. They are also able to deliver emergency food parcels to households who are unable to attend the Hub in person.
Longer-term, the Hub team's other aims include putting on more events and activities for the local community as well as providing other educational support and advice.
The Community Care Hub has been created by two local residents, Jess Powell and Xenia Kapasi, with support from their friends and also working alongside the Derby Food 4 Thought Alliance and Spondon's local councillors. To put them on a formal footing, the Hub has also quickly gone through all the formal steps to become a registered charity.
Anyone wishing to get in touch with the Hub, either to receive help or to find out more about their services, can contact them in any of the following ways:
- Visit the Hub at Craddock Avenue on the above days/times
- Via their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/communitycarehub
- Via email - CCH.Spondon@outlook.com
