1950s Jubilee Fun Day

The Old School, Chapel Street

Organisers will be turning the clock back at a celebration event in Spondon on the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Bank holiday.

They are planning to mark the monarch's 70 years on the throne by going back to the beginning of her record-breaking reign.

They are organising a 1950s Fun Day with a range of entertainments to suit families and individuals of all ages for which entry will be free.

Hosted by the Old School, Chapel Street, on Friday June 3 from 11am-4pm, the event will provide something new for today's youngsters and nostalgia for older generations.

There will be traditional games from yesteryear for children outside and assorted stalls inside.

Spondon choir Mixed Blessings will give two performances of popular songs from over the decades and, to add to the retro feeling, Spondon Historical Society will display photos from village life in the 1950s.

Bringing matters up to date, members of Spondon Tetsudo Club, who are based at the building, will give a demonstration of the Tibetan martial art.

Community organisations who wish to have a stall or sideshow should ring Gill Dudley on 01332 676732 or e-mail her at gilldudley@yahoo.com
